Mexico's Independence.

When Napoleonic France invaded Spain in 1808, in Mexico seeking independence movements were formed. On September 16, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo launched the "Grito de Dolores" haranguing the people to fight against the Spaniards who supported Napoleon Bonaparte. Hidalgo won some battles and organized a government in Guadalajara, but was soon defeated and shot (30/07/1811). The priest José María Morelos assumed leadership and conquered most of southern and central of the country.
Morelos also organized the Congress of Anáhuac, the same as in 1814 adopted the Constitution of Apatzingán, held liberal Republican. However, the Creoles denied help, and supported the absolutist restoration of King Fernando VII and the bloody repression of the Viceroy Felix Maria Calleja. After several defeats, Morelos was captured and executed (12/22/1815).
The Patriot leadership fell to Vicente Guerrero, who fought in the South until he suffered a serious defeat at Agua Zarca (1819). Remained rebellious and was pursued by General Agustin de Iturbide, who unable to defeat him offered a pact to join forces and proclaim the Independence of New Spain (Mexico). The February 24, 1821 signed the "Plan of Iguala", in which Mexico's independence was declared.
The Treaty of Cordoba, where the birth of the Mexican Empire was proclaimed were signed in August of the same year. In May 1822, Agustín de Iturbide was proclaimed emperor of independent Mexico.
